A Worldview Even a Loli-Con Can Understand(English ver.)

“Perverted Prison,” developed and published by Qruppo, is considered the third work from the company. Its basic setting largely inherits the worldview of the original “Baka Island,” making it a spiritual successor. In this game, unlike the more open Blue Island, Japan doesn’t tolerate perverted behavior. Any such actions will lead to being sent to the infamous Tulip Prison. Unfortunately, our protagonist, Ichirou Hiiragi, is a peculiar person who enjoys being close to nature in a rather intimate way. While it would be fine if he indulged in this behavior in secluded areas, Ichirou always seems to get caught. As a habitual offender, he is sentenced to ten years in Tulip Prison by an exasperated judge.

img.jpg

Tulip Prison, located on a remote island, was originally a mining area before being converted into a prison. The natural geography makes it nearly impossible to escape, much like America’s Alcatraz. Since it’s essentially a prison everywhere, why specifically send someone to Tulip Prison? If you’re just like the regular inmates, there’s no difference. However, those sent to Tulip Prison are special—considered transcendent in the world of perversion. Ichirou, among these extraordinary individuals, is but a minor player. The prisoners here are not ordinary—they must face severe punishment! If you want to engage in perverted acts, you will not be allowed to do so. Hence, the prison has a special metric called the “sexual coefficient.” Periodically, guards must assess and quantify it, sending offenders to solitary confinement. Under these regulations, the once-easy way of self-satisfaction is no longer possible. So, Ichirou’s new mission becomes lowering his sexual coefficient to survive.

“I’ll Execute You, Baby”

It seems that all prison-related literary works inevitably feature the trope of old inmates bullying new ones, and Ichirou is no exception. His unconventional personality causes him to be bullied by a group of seasoned criminals. However, Ichirou doesn’t play along. Instead, he stands his ground and faces the unfairness on his own. After being relentlessly bullied, Ichirou seizes an opportunity and, with the help of a new inmate nicknamed “Drone Girl,” turns the tables on the group of bullies, making them eat their words. “I’ll get you into trouble, Baby!” This childish taunt, seemingly from a kid, leaves a deep impression on the gang led by Rin and Koze.

img_1.jpg

In prison, some well-behaved prisoners can reduce their sexual coefficient by undergoing “rebirth training.” In this training, prisoners are grouped together to complete a project (no more PTSD from college presentations). Ichirou, with his quirky thinking, comes up with the idea to make a game—a very perverted game. But making a game requires manpower. Without it, a two-person project of “scaring themselves for seven years” wouldn’t be fun. So, a group of formerly unrelated inmates forms a small team, and thus begins the passionate journey of making a perverted game in Tulip Prison.

Behind Every Successful Man, There’s a Woman

Despite Ichirou knowing nothing about game development, his charisma makes him an honorary leader—a sort of mascot for the team. But where are the actual workers? Maybe it’s his stubbornness and determination to follow a single path that convinces the three ladies to help him. Despite Ichirou’s odd personality, which some of the women describe as “like a wild cat,” they are willing to serve him.

The Art Lady from the Underworld

To make a game, you need an artist. However, it’s difficult to find someone who can draw among these incompetent, perverted prisoners. One day, Ichirou notices a promotional poster on the wall of the prison, and its excellent artistic style catches his attention. He tracks down the artist, who turns out to be Mieko Botoe, a former yakuza boss from the Kanto region, now imprisoned. Before her incarceration, she ran an entire yakuza operation. But Ichirou, oblivious to her status, asks her, “Can we make a game together for life?” This bold and naive request causes an uproar among the gang. Perhaps it’s Ichirou’s seriousness that piques her interest, or maybe it’s just curiosity, but Mieko surprisingly agrees to join the project as the game’s lead artist.

img_2.jpg

Regardless of her age and status, Mieko is an elder to Ichirou. As an elder, she begins to guide him in socializing and even teaches him some self-defense techniques. Over time, her initial admiration for him develops into more complex feelings. But her rational side tells her not to drag this innocent boy into the depths of the underworld. Faced with Ichirou’s unwavering determination, Mieko, no longer just a former yakuza boss, must decide how to proceed.

High-Tech Genius “Drone Girl”

Noa Kurebayashi, nicknamed “Drone Girl,” is another inmate who arrived at the same time as Ichirou. She is different from most of the other inmates—possessing an unmatched intellect and proficiency with advanced technology. Logically, someone with her intelligence should never have been imprisoned, but what if it was intentional? Despite her brilliance, she remains an innocent rookie in some aspects of life, such as her relationship with her older sister. Being obsessed with her sister, Noa sends countless letters to her, but receives no response. So, she deliberately commits a crime and gets sent to prison to meet her sister, who works as a guard, hoping to convince her to escape with her. Unfortunately, her plan doesn’t go as expected, but she refuses to give up.

img_4.jpg

After learning about Noa’s extraordinary technical abilities, Ichirou convinces her to design the game’s program. As their relationship deepens, Ichirou discovers that the prison guard, Sofia Sikelienko, who has been watching him closely, is Noa’s sister. But their relationship is clearly strained. Now that Ichirou knows the truth, how will he approach this situation to heal Noa’s broken heart?

img_5.jpg

From Hell, She Comes

Iri Kurokane, an enigmatic figure in the prison, is rarely seen. She can only be found in a corner of the library, where she goes by the alias “Chisato.” Rumor has it that she’s an irredeemable criminal, though no one knows exactly where she’s imprisoned. She keeps to herself, avoiding contact with others until Ichirou invites her to join the game-making team. Only then does she step into the spotlight. A timid and shy person, she speaks only when the conversation turns to literature. Her meekness and lack of presence make her an outcast in the group.

img_6.jpg

After enduring bullying and neglect from the guards, Ichirou realizes that Chisato is a pariah in the prison, avoided by everyone except her team. To understand her past, Ichirou begins frequenting Chisato and tries to open up her closed heart. Despite her small stature, Chisato is incredibly strong inside. What is her hidden past? All of this awaits Ichirou to uncover.

img_7.jpg

The Power Game

The main plot of the game focuses on Ichirou’s group making the game, but there’s also another subplot—the power struggle within Tulip Prison. Director Mizushima, growing old, needs to select his successor. However, the prison is divided into two factions: the militant faction, led by Yugao, and the church faction, led by Suriya. Ichirou, who is eager to make an impact in prison, inevitably gets involved in this power struggle. How will he choose sides to further his own interests and secure a position in the prison?

img_8.jpg

The Beacon and Guide

Ichirou has two souls within him: his own and one called “Tianjin.” Since awakening his perverted tendencies, Tianjin has become his guide in dealing with life. Tianjin is Ichirou’s little secret, known only to him—his sister, Naoko, remains unaware. That is, until he meets the one person who becomes his guiding light—Eri Higuchi, a psychologist with a constant smile. Eri is Ichirou’s first friend in prison, the one person he feels he can confide in. Unlike the guards who exploit inmates, Eri brings a sense of warmth. No matter how outlandish Ichirou’s words are, she responds like a kind mother. Slowly, Ichirou begins to open up to her, and Eri becomes his mentor, filling the gap left by his missing elders and helping him grow. Through her guidance, Ichirou starts navigating the prison’s factions, securing his own place and rights.

img_9.jpg

Over time, Ichirou grows under Eri’s support. He engages with various factions in the prison, seeking his own freedom. As he matures, his conversations with Tianjin become less frequent, until one day, he no longer hears Tianjin’s voice. It is then that Ichirou realizes—he has grown up.

Andy and Red

Unlike its predecessor “Baka Island,” which follows a single storyline, “Perverted Prison” offers three main plotlines and even a harem route—an improvement in game design. In this route, Ichirou no longer focuses on a single

romantic interest but seeks ways to escape. No longer an outsider, he becomes the center of the power struggle, as Director Mizushima begins grooming him as a potential successor. However, Ichirou’s true desire is freedom, not power. He makes a deal with Mizushima: his three team members will be freed in exchange for his loyalty. Mizushima keeps her word, but Ichirou deceives them all. The reunion on the ship becomes a bittersweet farewell.

img_10.jpg

Like Andy’s rebirth in The Shawshank Redemption, Ichirou also undergoes a transformation in a rainstorm. The character of Dinggu, now a so-called “purchaser,” envies Ichirou’s determination and courage, even as he despises his own weakness and compromises. Years later, Dinggu visits the rooftop of the school where Ichirou once talked about freedom. He finds the letter with Ichirou’s name on it, along with a ticket to a new world. Both Dinggu and Ichirou’s paths converge on that boat, embarking on a journey from which there is no return, encountering each other in a warm embrace.

img_11.jpg

Farewell, Prison

Plot-wise, the game feels like a retelling of The Shawshank Redemption, with Ichirou’s constant yearning for freedom driving his redemption. The narrative quality surpasses that of Baka Island, avoiding pretentious philosophical moments and maintaining smooth, engaging development. It is, in my opinion, one of the best story-driven games in recent years. The visuals carry the company’s distinct style, with a flat, linear art style that may not be to everyone’s taste. However, after getting used to it, it becomes quite comfortable, except for a few awkward CGs. I highly recommend taking the time to experience the game in its entirety, as it offers an emotionally moving journey that will leave you teary-eyed.

(Chinese ver.)

img.jpg

Baby

img_1.jpg

img_2.jpg

img_3.jpg

img_4.jpg

img_5.jpg

img_6.jpg

img_7.jpg

img_8.jpg

img_9.jpg

img_10.jpg

img_11.jpg
